Organic Growth Tips for Marketing Professionals in 2021

When it comes to marketing a website, great organic growth should be your top priority. Admittedly, boosting organic growth can be hard. But if visitors are entering your site without the help of paid advertisements, that means your site is highly visible and offers something genuinely useful.

8 ways to improve organic growth

To help you improve your site and increase your reach, here’s a list of tactics you can use:

1. Take advantage of free traffic sources

The great thing about organic traffic is that it’s free. And there are a ton of excellent free traffic sources that you can use to improve your reach. The first thing you should be doing is using social media to direct a targeted audience back to your site. You can also create videos on YouTube to diversify your content and engage your audience. Lastly, you can use sites like Reddit or Quora to show off your expertise and gain credibility.

2. Master SEO

This is certainly easier said than done. SEO refers to optimizing your site according to the ranking factors that Google uses when providing a results page. If you want your website to be visible to potential visitors, you need to nail these ranking factors: keywords, backlinks, images, and credibility. That being said, SEO is ever-changing, so make sure to stay updated on the latest practices.

3. Optimize for voice and mobile

Your site might look great on a desktop, but that doesn’t guarantee organic traffic. Many people are turning to mobile browsing for a significant percentage of their internet searches. On top of that, voice search is quickly becoming an important tool. All that is to say, you should be optimizing your website for both of these demographics so that you can capture as much organic traffic as possible.

4. Reassess your niche

If you want to become an expert in your field, you need to make sure the niche you’ve chosen isn’t too broad. For example, if you’ve selected “fitness”, you’re now competing with the likes of Men's Health and Self.com -- this isn’t ideal. To fix this, you need to narrow down your niche. Take it from “fitness” to “long-distance running” or “vegan bodybuilding.” These niches target much more specific audiences, which gives you the chance to stand out and build authority.

5. Work with influencers

Social media is a helpful tool in more ways than one. Reaching out to influencers in your niche is a great way to expand your audience and improve organic growth. If you’re a smaller account, you can reach out to micro-influencers who make excellent content. A collaboration with an influencer can help expose your brand name to a target audience who may be interested in your products or services.

6. Prioritize great headlines

Headlines might seem like an insignificant detail in the grand scheme of content, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, your headline is one of the most important tools in gaining organic traffic. Up to 80% of people will read a headline, while only 20% read the rest of the article. Optimizing your title doesn’t just mean throwing in the keywords-- make sure it offers something that the reader wants. The most effective headlines often include a number and directly address the reader.

7. Create shareable content

One of the best ways to get more organic traffic is through re-shares and backlinks. And in order to get these things, you need excellent content. Now, there are a few specific types of content that have a high likelihood of being linked to and shared. For example, studies and surveys are great because people will link back to them in their own content. Infographics and simple graphs are other formats that are often shared too. Just make sure to include your logo or company name on any graphics you create and require credit any time it’s shared.

8. Update old content

You might notice that some of your content that used to be hard-hitting is no longer performing. The reality is, even content that hits all the marks will eventually become irrelevant in the eyes of Google. That’s because it’s Google’s job to provide the most up-to-date information available. Luckily, you don’t have to write completely new content every time this happens. Instead, you should be heading back to underperforming content and updating it. Make sure the information in your content is still accurate and relevant.

Final thoughts

Increasing organic traffic certainly takes time and effort. The good news is, you can do it without spending a dime. The best thing you can do for your site is to make sure it’s optimized, and relevant. Continue updating your content so that it remains accurate. Make sure to take advantage of the free traffic sources out there, and you’ll be on your way to growing your site.
