How can you go about tracking down the source of a DDoS attack once you're back up and running?

Falling victim to a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack can be a big problem for any enterprise. While companies such as retailers that have a strong focus on ecommerce to drive revenue may be among the most obviously affected, any firm that relies on online services to function can find these attacks highly damaging to their performance.

But even if you have the right tools in place to mitigate the worst of the damage and get you back up and running quickly, how can you be sure you won't simply fall victim again? One answer may be to determine where these attacks originate so you can work with law enforcement to shut them down for good.
