How to Choose the Right Social Media Marketing Platform

Below are some tips for how to choose the right social media marketing platform for your business.

Go where your target audience is located

In order to run a successful marketing campaign, you need to determine where your target audience is located. For example, if your target audience is millennials, they tend to congregate more on sites like Instagram or Snapchat, whilst seniors are presently the fastest growing demographic on Facebook. It’s also important to consider other demographics. For example, three times as many women use Pinterest than men.

Determining where your target audience is most likely to be located is one major factor to consider when choosing a social media platform for your business. Once you know where your audience is likely to be, you can determine where to best market your product or service.

Do what you enjoy most

By doing something you enjoy on social media, potential customers will be attracted to your enthusiasm. If participating on social media is a chore for you, your audience will react accordingly, and it will become more difficult to engage your audience in a positive way.

Keep in mind that, in order to be successful at social media marketing, you must create new posts regularly. If you're not enjoying your engagement with your audience, you’ll be less likely to post enough material to consistently reach them, and you'll be less likely to get them enthused about what you offer.

Do what you're good at

Doing what you're good at helps the quality of your marketing, which makes it more effective. If you aren't good at creating videos, it makes little sense to use YouTube. If your photography skills are lacking, Instagram is not a great first choice for your marketing. If you put a low-quality product on a social media platform, you’ll only hurt your business and make a poor first impression.

If you're good at creating short videos, promoting your business on a platform like TikTok makes sense. If you prefer longer, more in-depth content, Reddit gives you the option of longer or shorter pieces. Play to the strengths of your skills and the most effective way to get out your message to your customers.

Stay within your budget

If you can't afford to advertise on a particular social platform, then it's not the right place to market your business. For example, the cost of some Facebook marketing campaigns is higher than other platforms, and LinkedIn is generally the most expensive social platform for cost per click (CPC) campaigns. If this is beyond your budget, don't reach for it, as it won’t be effective.

Overall, it’s vital to pick the right social media platform as the right choice can make a big difference to your bottom line and the success of your business.
