The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics results shows that working too much decreases productivity by 68% because workers feel they don't have enough time in their working day to accomplish their tasks. This feeling of constant overload may lead to burnout, chronic stress, and anxiety.
Vacations could be a remedy - - but smartphones ruin it.
At Passport Photo Online, we polled 1,000+ Americans on their smartphone use during their travels. What did we find out? Nearly 70% of US working professionals use mobiles for work during their downtime. As a result, they can't fully rest during their vacation - while the body is relaxing on the beach, the mind is occupied with work. A full 62% of employees agree that using a smartphone for work made them unable to recharge their batteries.
Who is to blame? The hustle culture or the pressure from above? Both are equally valid answers. Nearly 60% of U.S. workers say their bosses expect them to stay connected during vacation. At the same time, over half of employees (55%) feel pressure to respond to work emails or messages during their vacation days, even if the employer doesn't require it. Well, maybe we just don't know how to relax?
Unfortunately, leaving our phones at home while traveling is not an option. A whopping 75% of American travelers claim that a smartphone is their number one travel accessory. So it's high time to learn how to switch off because 66% of respondents claim they wish they could be unavailable during their most recent holiday.
